Function

The job

For estimating the long-term wind climate at the local scale, 3E has developed and integrated a model chain that uses an innovative and peer-reviewed methodology elaborated and extensively validated during the New European Wind Atlas (NEWA) project.

Our solution combines the Weather Research & Forecasting (WRF) model together with machine learning algorithms and cutting-edge satellite data to offer the most cost-effective solution.

3E is now developing and preparing for a commercialisation of a new disruptive product built upon this model chain to deliver the most innovative solution on the market. One-stop-shop, Automation, Cloud Technologies and a powerful User Interface are the core of its DNA.

We are looking for a talented wind resource modelling expert with a strong interest and experience in software/backend development to support our team. Key aspects of your role will be:

  • Support the development of our product’s backend components involving: data acquisition & processing, wind resource modelling framework, containerization, etc.
  • Evaluate the model chain performances together with our team of engineers and scientists
  • Suggest improvements and evaluate development efforts for inclusion in the product’s framework
  • Contribute to the further general development and increase in performance of the product

The ideal candidate enjoys dealing with large volumes of data, complex workflows, data analytics and cloud computing.

You will also have the opportunity to display and further develop your skills in:

  • Design, implementation, and automated deployment of scalable services
  • Operation and maintenance of internal databases

Profile

Profile

  • At least 2 years of experience in the field of wind resource modelling
  • Good level of Python and the scientific eco-system (pandas, scipy, xarray, statsmodels, scikit-learn, …)
  • Knowledge of git, linux, shell scripting, docker is a plus
  • Affinity with modern development methods, such as agile development, automated testing and micro services architectures
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud computing technologies is an asset
  • Research background but with a very pragmatic mindset
  • Organized, rigorous and pro-active
  • Able to cope with strict timing and deadlines
  • Flexible and start-up mentality
